I'm finished with Spina Cage.
I've been putting this off and off and off. And, well, I suppose it's time to get it over with.
1. My computer's been broken for a few months (little access to scanners, photoshop) and I don't see one I can afford soon in my future. 2. I wrote this story three years ago and I have learned a lot more about plots and creating stories in general since then. 3. A lot has happened and I've changed since I started this. 4. The rest of the story is too boring for me to stand drawing (see point 2, otherwise know as point "Do not make only the first part of the story exciting.").
The combination of all those points, most significantly 3 and 4, has made me decided to quit this.
I never wanted to quit, I absolutely hated the idea of quitting a comic before it was completed. That's why it's taken so long for me to announce this. Deep denial doo doo. Whenever a comic I like was ended prematurely, I'd get depressed, and I didn't want to do it myself.
But sometimes you just can't make yourself continue something your heart's not in anymore. And my heart WAS in this! These last few years this comic has literally been the brightest spot in my life. That people could enjoy something that made me so happy to make was unbelievable, and I'll never regret Spina Cage because of that. This was my first comic (that went longer than 3 pages hurr) and it's been an invaluable experience. I've learned a lot about techniques, tools (I used to draw this on printer paper), and just plain drawing while making this.
I talked to my best friends (and even my mom after she got on me for not updating DX) about what to do. Suggestions included "End it off quickly", "Just hiatus it for now", and "KEEP GOING FAGGOT". I tried the first one, but I couldn't find something I liked that didn't undermine the first part. The only thing worse than quitting it for me was to end it awfully and make people feel they'd read this whole thing only to be delivered a cheap ending. The second I considered, but then I realized I've BEEN doing that these last few months, unofficially :/ I don't believe I'll touch this story again soon and I don't want anyone waiting for something that I doubt will ever happen.
And guys, when I say A LOT has happened since this began and I've changed since then. Seriously. Good things like learning to drive, getting a job, and overall learning how to be independent. And unfortunatly, many more bad things, the latest of which was someone I loved......Well, it was three weeks ago, and I loved him a lot. And a lot of people I loved loved him.
Well, the point is, experiances change you and the world changes you, and sometimes things happen that change plans. And that's why I'm ending this comic.
Thank you to everyone who read and enjoyed this. A bigger thanks to everyone who can accept this with maturity and have the faith in this comic book maker to follow me to my future comics. I love making comics and if you'll read them, I'll share them. (You can follow my comic news here: CLICK FOR MY LIVEJOURNAL )

And they all lived happily ever after.

P.S.: To those of you that want to know the ending, read this popular fairy tale for an idea:

Beauty and the Beast

There was once a merchant that had three daughters, and he loved them better than himself. Now it happened that he had to go a long journey to buy some goods, and when he was just starting he said to them, "What shall I bring you back, my dears?"

And the eldest daughter asked to have a necklace; and the second daughter wished to have a gold chain; but the youngest daughter said, "Bring back yourself, papa, and that is what I want the most."

"Nonsense, child," said her father, "you must say something that I may remember to bring back for you."

"So," she said, "then bring me back a rose, father."

Well, the merchant went on his journey and did his business and bought a pearl necklace for his eldest daughter, and a gold chain for his second daughter; but he knew it was no use getting a rose for the youngest while he was so far away because it would fade before he got home. So he made up his mind he would get a rose for her the day he got near his house.

When all his merchanting was done he rode off home and forgot all about the rose till he was near his house; then he suddenly remembered what he had promised his youngest daughter, and looked about to see if he could find a rose. Near where he had stopped he saw a great garden, and getting off his horse he wandered about in it till he found a lovely rosebush; and he plucked the most beautiful rose he could see on it. At that moment he heard a crash like thunder, and looking around he saw a huge monster -- two tusks in his mouth and fiery eyes surrounded by bristles, and horns coming out of its head and spreading over its back.

"Mortal," said the beast, "who told you you might pluck my roses?"

"Please, sir," said the merchant in fear and terror for his life, "I promised my daughter to bring her home a rose and forgot about it till the last moment, and then I saw your beautiful garden and thought you would not miss a single rose, or else I would have asked your permission."

"Thieving is thieving," said the beast, "whether it be a rose or a diamond; your life is forfeit."

The merchant fell on his knees and begged for his life for the sake of his three daughters who had none but him to support them.

"Well, mortal, well," said the beast, "I grant your life on one condition: Seven days from now you must bring this youngest daughter of yours, for whose sake you have broken into my garden, and leave her here in your stead. Otherwise swear that you will return and place yourself at my disposal."

So the merchant swore, and taking his rose mounted his horse and rode home.

As soon as he got into his house his daughters came rushing round him, clapping their hands and showing their joy in every way, and soon he gave the necklace to his eldest daughter, the chain to his second daughter, and then he gave the rose to his youngest, and as he gave it he sighed.

"Oh, thank you, father," they all cried.

But the youngest said, "Why did you sigh so deeply when you gave me my rose?"

"Later on I will tell you," said the merchant.

So for several days they lived happily together, though the merchant wandered about gloomy and sad, and nothing his daughters could do would cheer him up till at last he took his youngest daughter aside and said to her, "Bella, do you love your father?"

"Of course I do, father, of course I do."

"Well, now you have a chance of showing it"; and then he told her of all that had occurred with the beast when he got the rose for her. Bella was very sad, as you can well think, and then she said, "Oh, father, it was all on account of me that you fell into the power of this beast; so I will go with you to him; perhaps he will do me no harm; but even if he does -- better harm to me than evil to my dear father."

So next day the merchant took Bella behind him on his horse, as was the custom in those days, and rode off to the dwelling of the beast. And when he got there and they alighted from his horse the doors of the house opened, and what do you think they saw there! Nothing. So they went up the steps and went through the hall, and went into the dining room, and there they saw a table spread with all manner of beautiful glasses and plates and dishes and napery, with plenty to eat upon it. So they waited and they waited, thinking that the owner of the house would appear, till at last the merchant said, "Let's sit down and see what will happen then." And when they sat down invisible hands passed them things to eat and to drink, and they ate and drank to their heart's content. And when they arose from the table it arose too and disappeared through the door as if it were being carried by invisible servants.

Suddenly there appeared before them the beast who said to the merchant, "Is this your youngest daughter?"

And when he had said that it was, he said, "Is she willing to stop here with me?"

And then he looked at Bella who said, in a trembling voice, "Yes, sir."

"Well, no harm shall befall you." With that he led the merchant down to his horse and told him he might come that day each week to visit his daughter. Then the beast returned to Bella and said to her, "This house with all that therein is is yours; if you desire aught, clap your hands and say the word and it shall be brought unto you." And with that he made a sort of bow and went away.

So Bella lived on in the home with the beast and was waited on by invisible servants and had whatever she liked to eat and to drink; but she soon got tired of the solitude and, next day, when the beast came to her, though he looked so terrible, she had been so well treated that she had lost a great deal of her terror of him. So they spoke together about the garden and about the house and about her father's business and about all manner of things, so that Bella lost altogether her fear of the beast. Shortly afterwards her father came to see her and found her quite happy, and he felt much less dread of her fate at the hands of the beast.

So it went on for many days, Bella seeing and talking to the beast every day, till she got quite to like him, until one day the beast did not come at his usual time, just after the midday meal, and Bella quite missed him. So she wandered about the garden trying to find him, calling out his name, but received no reply. At last she came to the rosebush from which her father had plucked the rose, and there, under it, what do you think she saw! There was the beast lying huddled up without any life or motion. Then Bella was sorry indeed and remembered all the kindness that the beast had shown her; and she threw herself down by it and said, "Oh, Beast, Beast, why did you die? I was getting to love you so much."

No sooner had she said this than the hide of the beast split in two and out came the most handsome young prince who told her that he had been enchanted by a magician and that he could not recover his natural form unless a maiden should, of her own accord, declare that she loved him.

Thereupon the prince sent for the merchant and his daughters, and he was married to Bella, and they all lived happy together ever afterwards.

The End

The pages of Spina Cage will stay here for an indefinite amount of time. You know, in case anyone would like to look upon the first few pages and laugh at the horror.

It's a shame that it has to end, but I understand why it is.
Thanks for the awesomeness that came so far and hope to see if you have any more comics planned for the future!

Donten, 30 Sep 2009 11:00 am

I understand why it has to end, and I hope no one will bother you about it.

I loved this comic. It always made my day, so thank you so much for drawing it up till now! <33 I will follow you on LiveJournal from now on so I can continue enjoying your beautiful artwork. :D

Thank you, again.

Usagi_The_White_Rabbit, 30 Sep 2009 11:50 am

Awwwwwww. Ah well, I knew it was coming (uve told me before)
I like the last pic

mintt, 30 Sep 2009 11:53 am

Well, it was fun to read while it was fun for you! Though it's sad that it's stopping, I totally understand and hope that you'll soon have a new idea that you love just as much if not more. :>

amiko_16, 30 Sep 2009 12:31 pm

Aww bb :(
I had a feeling this was going to happen (so I figured nagging you for updates would be a moot point XD;;;;;;;). I understand where you're coming from, though. Sometimes all that you can do with some stories is take them out back and shoot them. >_>; Especially when you've mentally moved past them.

I didn't know you'd gone through so many rough patches, though. (If it was on LJ, I haven't checked my FL in like.. months, because I fail.) Looking forward to any future comics from you :3

Awww - it's always sad to see a good webcomic go, but real life gets in the way!

Thank you so much for doing what you did - I loved every second of it! Good luck on future endeavours!

Cheers!

LAWL; soothing, whut?
I'm sorry this piece of wonder had to end, but I'm happy YOU'RE happy that you've grown in the past few years. Growing in life, as an artist, as a person, is one of the most challenging and rewarding things you can possibly do- and while I'm very sad to see the end of this, I will say this:

Congratulations all around.

You say the first few pages were a 'horror,' but it's full of inspiration and satisfaction. I can tell that the whole dang thing brought you a lot of joy, and you should be proud for taking that much happiness out of the comic. Really.

Also, I can't thank you enough for giving us the basis of the story and how it ends. Every time I see a good comic end, I'm always disappointed that I don't get to see how it ends- THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting that little extra, it's soothing.

Congrats again on making some of the most interesting characters I've seen in a long time for one of the most engaging comics I've seen EVER. Best of luck, I hope to see more of your stuff soon. MASSIVE CONGRAAAAAAATSSSSSSSSsss

VItamInPIll, 30 Sep 2009 01:21 pm

hunnmm... well i saw this coming since you haven't been updating and all... ahhhhh of course it's a shame, but it was funny as long as it lasted... :c

but wild children can use their wild imagination and imagine how the rest would have looked, duhhh ... ¢¾ i luf u anywei.

Alistarr, 30 Sep 2009 01:28 pm

I look forward to any future comics you decide to make! I loved this, because I love all "Beauty and the Beast" basic plot lines, and hope you just leave it up. Just make sure to state all over the description that it will be discontinued. It is fun to read the pages you have up already even though you won't be updating again. ;3

Seedless-acorn, 30 Sep 2009 01:44 pm

awww but i knows the feeling of cutting off a web comic thingy :C sad but it happens.

Trash, 30 Sep 2009 01:58 pm

don't feel bad about not continueing, i think it took a lot of effort to actually admit you weren't going to keep up with this anymore.

it was a wonderful read, for what it's worth, and i hope sometime in the future you'll be able to do more webcomics as lovely as this one. c:

kupocchi, 30 Sep 2009 02:17 pm

Well, it was a good run. No use working on something that you've lost interest in. Drawing isn't supposed to be a chore. I hope your future journey in art is a fulfilling experience; good luck!

MelodicFlames, 30 Sep 2009 02:33 pm

I'm sad that it had to end but it is totally understandable .

I hope you make other comics in the future!

Arachibutyrophobia, 30 Sep 2009 03:12 pm

Good Luck <3

Waifer, 30 Sep 2009 03:22 pm

I'm more than a little sad that this is ending. I'm a newer fan so I can't really say much. . . .

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, as long as you make another one, I think I can compromise. ;B

-Saves all of the pages and art to look at later for help-

chibibarrage, 30 Sep 2009 03:57 pm

aw...I'll miss this comic, but if you want to stop then I can't stop you. ;^;

Just keep going forward in life and live your life happily! ^w^ but I hope you won't stop drawing, you've got great talent!

Tenshi Yami no Neko, 30 Sep 2009 05:17 pm

I have to say i'm deeply sad that this story isn't going to continue. TT^TT *criesinside* but i can understand that these things happen. Thanks for what you gave us so far and i can't wait for what else you will through our way!! XD I personally like your story and i'm very interested in what else you'll make!!! *much love sent your way!!(i'm so lame!)* Your art is awsome and i love the humor that you put in the story despite how serious it is in most scenes.

I hope one day you decide to pick this back up and re-make it to your satisfaction but again that's your decision to make. I hope everything turns out well for you in the future!!

keoko-dono, 30 Sep 2009 05:35 pm

:E thee eeeend

Blue Eyes, 30 Sep 2009 05:47 pm

I'll really miss this comic cause i liked the characters, but I'm glad that you are doing this for yourself.

I will most definitely read any other comics you put up.

OHHHHHH beauty and the beast! lol i see! Well that's so sweet! I wish i could see what the beast looks like in human form!

antisnottist, 30 Sep 2009 06:41 pm

It makes me sad that Spina Cage will no longer continue. But I totally understand your reasons and find myself capable of forgiving you :D
I look forward to any manga you create in the future!!!

oni-bu, 30 Sep 2009 06:49 pm

;__________; This makes my stomach hurt, I'm so sad. But it would be even worse if you were to continue a comic you had no heart in anymore... OTL *sighhhh*

I hope you are doing better, and I hope now that this responsibility is not weighing on you, the load you have to deal with will have lessened. ilu

eaglelily, 30 Sep 2009 07:03 pm

so adrian and the monster get married!?!?!? or does his sister marry him...? (th monster)

UGH WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GOOOOO!!! YOUR COMIC ROCKS!!!! T^T

KenTexan, 30 Sep 2009 09:15 pm

You know what, I'm glad you're doing this. If you aren't happy with continuing something, then why do it? I really hope that with the ending of this you can focus on doing things to help you grow and that you enjoy doing.
Yeah, I liked the comic but you know what? This was made because to be quite honest you felt like it. You don't feel like it, you don't do it. I will however be eagerly anticipating seeing you try to start another comic with your current knowledge-- that is if that is what you want to do. Who, me? I'm just one out of a thousand, million-odd people that stumbled onto your site and decided to watch you. My opinion doesn't matter in the long run, but maybe this response may be supportive.

Princess of Donutland, 30 Sep 2009 09:19 pm

wait
WHAT
they were gonna get married?!
I'm sorry, I can't picture the beast in a wedding dress! :: SHOT ::
but any who, thank you for letting us know, we will miss you. But sometimes you just have to let go. Thank you for the wonderful comic :3

Chan Is No Longer a Guest, 30 Sep 2009 09:25 pm

I just got really sad, it's too bad this is ending. But I understand. If you have to quit, you have to quit. No use doing something you aren't enjoying. Wouldn't be the same.
I really did enjoy this comic though, and if you ever start another comic I'm most likely gonna read it.
And I'm gonna have to check out your LJ account.
YAYI'MASTALKER.
<3 But I hope everything's okay and whatnot, and glad you enjoyed doing this.

Arkadian Mouse, 30 Sep 2009 09:32 pm

*sigh* Sorry to see you go, I loved this comic dearly!
I understand, though, and it was good while it lasted :)

Tsumetai (Guest), 01 Oct 2009 01:24 pm

ICECREAM
i need icecream ;.; to drown my sorrows in
TT^TT i'm sad that it has to remain unfinished but i'm happy you told us
i would have waited for years, always checking for a update. another webcomic i am in love with didn't update for 2 years but i kept on checking (luckily they have recently started updating again)

but i guess you won't be like that, spinacage has really come to a end and you won't come back with it in a few years huh?
oh well i'll DEFINATELY follow your future comics, that is a promise (i hope i don't sound like a stalker XD)

Straay, 01 Oct 2009 02:19 pm

I'm sad about this, but I completely understand why you are ending this. I just want you to know that I really enjoyed this comic and that I will gladly wait for more of your work. :D

duvete, 02 Oct 2009 12:01 pm

Awwwww D: I'm sad there will be no more updates.

r-o-t-a, 02 Oct 2009 03:02 pm

Thanks for posting the story too. I was planning on asking you for the plot if you hadn't posted that. It was good fun while it lasted.

Anon (Guest), 02 Oct 2009 04:56 pm

Sad news, but thanks for being mature enough to NOT just slap on a hasty ending and call it a day. I'm sure many of us have had comics slide downhill like that, and it stings even worse than having the author step away from it. It's always better to remember a comic for what it had been so far, instead of staining the reputation with a clumsy finale.

And thanks for posting that story - I love that tale, and I'm glad to have an 'ending' in mind that makes me as happy as that does. :)

(Hope you don't mind a lot of new people watching your sketch LJ now, I'm sure..)

fishuu, 02 Oct 2009 11:17 pm

I'm terribly sad the comic's over, but I understand, and I'm glad you finally made the decision and hopefully took a lot of stress off your back.

I'll be adding you on lj if you don't mind~ :)

Kuragari Okami, 06 Oct 2009 02:55 am

awwwww....
D:

CaptiveAngel, 11 Oct 2009 04:17 pm

Dear I.S.P ;;___;; i haw waited so long hoping you would update, but i guess you wont... ;_; Do i haw to give up, or can i still haw the hope of updates on this comic? I must haw read it about 30 times already, but i still am not tired to it.. <: ) so it's really sad to me, that you gave up... i loved the comic, and always will! <3

Havok (Guest), 12 Oct 2009 10:18 pm

I don't think I ever commented on the comic, but I shall for this! We'll all miss this, for sure, but I for one understand life and shit happening. I look forwards to other comics you might decide to do in the future! *thumbs up*

Wisteria, 20 Oct 2009 07:40 pm

I do that too...I start something but end up stopping when I realize my heart's not in it anymore. I have a nice half-painted canvas in my room that I know I'm never finishing. It's really a normal feeling, isn't it?

If you ever decide to start another comic, you'll have one eager fan right here! ^_^

JoeyXD, 25 Oct 2009 01:33 am

Oh, that's too bad! I always looked forward to the updates.

It was wonderful while it lasted, though.
